Principal Erwin's Welcome Letter
Dear Beaverton High School
Students and Families,
Welcome to Beaverton High School and the 2019-20 school year! The start of the year is a chance to look forward to the promising future that is ahead for us. We move into this year with a strong sense of purpose and inspiration that guide our work together. Our rich history and tradition along with our recent successes form a strong foundation for the upcoming year.
Our strength as a community emanates from four core values.
- Excellence inspires us: We demand excellence in every aspect of our school.
- Learning transforms us: We instill a passion for exploring ideas, questions, and possibilities.
- Community connects us: We are a caring, inclusive, and collaborative community.
- Tradition unites us: We recognize and embrace our rich legacy and traditions.
We strive to incorporate these values into all aspects of our school and we are dedicated to our vision: We believe ALL students will graduate prepared for, confident in, and excited about the future they choose. We strive to work in partnership with our BHS families to foster the achievement of all of our students. Strong partnership is built on clear communication.
Here are some important details about this year.
- Beaver Days are August 21st and 22nd. We offer an evening session on the 22nd for families who cannot make the sessions during the day. We look forward to seeing everyone on one of these days.
- This year the first day of school is September 3rd (9th grade only) and September 4th (all grades).
- We have several new staff members including two new Assistant Principals, Maria Copelan and Malindi Zimmer. I’ll get out a list of our new teachers and staff in my first family update.
- Our custodial staff was busy getting the entire campus ready. The floors shine, our classrooms are ready, and the grounds are looking good.
- On September 7th we will officially dedicate the new BHS Concession stand and Spirit Plaza in the stadium area. More information to come.
- Back to School Night is scheduled for October 3rd.
I am very optimistic about the tremendous opportunities that are in our future. The strength of our values, the support of our community, and the optimism of our staff, students, and families, have us poised for another successful year. On behalf of the staff of BHS, welcome back to school. Please do not hesitate to call the main office at 503-356-2830 if you have any questions.
As always, we are proud to be THE Beaverton High School!
Yours truly,
Dr. Anne S. Erwin
Principal, Beaverton High School

Dear Beaverton High School families,
Whether you are new to BHS or have been involved in BHS activities for years, welcome to the Beaverton Family and Alumni Network (aka BFAN, formerly Booster Club.) As a family member of a BHS student you are part of the BFAN membership. I welcome you to join us at our monthly membership meetings where we discuss issues related to our activities, vote on grants and hear more about life at our school through our principal, Dr. Erwin, our ASB President, BHS counselors, BHS coaches and others.
I also encourage you to consider volunteering at the many events that BFAN supports. These events, large and small, enhance the daily experience for our students and staff each year. Examples include:
- awarding grants to athletic teams, groups such as Band and Drama, and the many clubs at BHS
- running concessions
- awarding scholarships (5 of them!)
- organizing staff appreciation events
- funding rooter buses
- supporting the Hall of Achievement, which honors former students, staff and community members who have brought pride to our school through their individual achievements
- supporting the all-night, fun and safe Grad Night Party for our graduating seniors
- funding the senior breakfast and senior reception, two of the traditional end of year events which help to make the graduation experience extra special for our seniors and their families
- hosting Bucky’s Block Party on September 7th, celebrating the grand opening of our new concession stand, including local merchants, food, games and performances by school and community groups.
Many of you are familiar with the BHS Success Fund, which has made a significant impact on many programs, resources and facilities at BHS, including the new concession stand. While the Success Fund focuses on the long-term needs and aspirations of BHS, BFAN addresses immediate needs throughout the school year.
Much of BFAN’s funding comes from concession stand sales and the annual Holiday Bazaar. BFAN does not require membership dues; being a family member or alumni gives all of us a voice in our shared experience at Beaverton High School. However, the more money BFAN raises, the greater impact we can have on the lives of our students and the BHS staff. For that reason, I am asking you to consider making a tax-deductible donation to BFAN, a 501(c)(3) charity. As a non-profit, BFAN is able to invest every penny it receives, after expenses, into programs and events that directly benefit our students.
Thank you for your support!
Wendy Cawley

Senior Reception & Memory Page
Class of 2020 - Senior Reception
WED-May 27th, 2020 - 6:30pm in the Cafeteria
Coming up in May 2020, the Parent Network holds a reception honoring the 104th graduating class at Beaverton High School. This reception is a casual event, a chance for seniors and their family to mingle before graduation. Held in the cafeteria, light refreshments will be served and a short program welcoming this class as the newest members of high school’s alumni. Seniors have the opportunity to sign the Alumni Book of Signatures dating back 50 years or more!
We ask each senior, or their parent to create a "Memory Page" depicting student life as a Beaver! A traditional scrapbook style collage is 12” by 12” and usually assembled with printed photographs and other applicable symbols pertaining to the individual senior. Each Memory Page will be proudly displayed at the reception and makes great topic of conversation!
While you collect pictures to create this page, save some of your favorites for the “Senior Slide Show” shown the last day of school for seniors June 4th, 2020. The electronic file location or email to be announced soon.
If you need help creating this memory lane masterpiece or keepsake, you can find helpful experts at Whimzee’s Scrapbooking in Beaverton. But don’t fret; it can be done with very simple materials and your creativity. Or, there are electronic photo collages applications available at Costco or Shutterfly by simply uploading images, arrange and print.
